ANNAPOLIS, MD — The first day of school in Anne Arundel County is Tuesday, September 5, for grades 1-5, 6 and 9. Grades 7, 10, 11 and 12 begin on Wednesday, September 6. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. Anne Arundel County Public Schools have released the 2017-2018 calendar for the school system.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences. As always, the last day of school is subject to change depending on weather cancelations during the year.

August

  • 8/28 - 8/31: Opening Activities for Teachers (to include the equivalent of two teacher workdays)
  • 8/29: Professional Development Day for Elementary Teachers
  • 8/30: Professional Development Day for Secondary Teachers

September

  • 9/5: Schools Open for Grades 1-5, 6 and 9, Conferences for Kindergarten and Full-day and Half-day Pre-K students
  • 9/6: Schools Open for Grades 1-12, Conferences for Kindergarten and Full-day and Half-day Pre-K students, Conferences for Half-day Pre-K & ECI students
